Spiritual Disconnect

Materialism does not bring happiness
Often friends or family appear to be more interested in the lives of others than their own. And it usually results in a line of questioning, such as; how’s your job? What’s your title? How many hours are you working? Hear about the layoffs? Still have your job? Have you heard about the latest rumour?
In no time they are forcing their unwanted and unasked for opinion(s) on you. Most of us are polite and passively listen unless you are intent in getting into that kind of conversation. If you are not interested in the subject, the session can be quite draining.
People simply do not mind their own business. Whether it affects them or not, they appear bored with their lives and want to extract some good gossip to spice up theirs.
What drives this behaviour?
Experience indicates that the people asking about the plight of other folks do so because
they are jealous, envious, harbour resentment or something else that burns them up inside. It does not matter what the person issuing the prying questions has materialistically (they often have bigger houses, better cars, higher positions and more money) the assault is warranted in their eyes because you have something they do not. Just what that is can be confusing because most of the people that issue these types of comments are the ones that only truly know. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that the negativity is directed specifically at you, they may just need to vent their frustrations. However chances are there is something missing in their life that is on display in yours and they want it.
When people become spiritually disconnected this is the type of behavior one can expect.

Jealousy and lack of self-confidence has almost certainly played a large role in their childhood. This type of behaviour, being of a negative value, produces a “me first” thought pattern. The views manifest themselves on the external and play a large role in the values of the individuals that harbour them. In other words the reason they are asking the questions is they truly have never felt secure in their own lives. Something is missing and although they appear happy whenever you are around, their comments tell you otherwise.

The solution is to be as happy and as positive as you can be when in their company. Fielding their questions and dealing with them politely and honestly is a great strategy. It makes them feel important. If they persist, try switching the tactics to ask them the same question they just asked you. And the first chance you get, change the subject to something completely out of left field. Stay within a comfortable neutral topic and avoid them extracting information from your life when they have no business in it.
This is not that easy to do, especially if you know beforehand that the crowd you are going to see will inevitably ask personal and prying questions. In these cases the best route may be to make a polite excuse and avoid the get-together.
The bottom line is spiritually disconnected people are not happy. If you are able to bring them up to a level of happiness without lowering yourself into their thought pattern, then you can really have a positive effect on their lives. However be careful, the energy can literally leave you exhausted, as charging their vitality may be at the cost of depleting yours.
Be mindful that many people with more materialistic gains than you may still want what you have even though they may ridicule you in public or private when they get the chance. The reason for this is obvious; if you are a happy, tight, spiritual and loving family, no amount of money can replace that. This is what is missing in their lives, and unless they unlearn what they have learned they cannot achieve the happiness they desire.
Never base your decisions on money. If you do, there is a good chance misery and loneliness will find you. Living a life full of love is the key to happiness.
