Healthy Competition or Broken Society?

Competition can scare you
In the age of competition an unpleasant trend has appeared. With greed and self-saturation as the underlining themes some people have taken credit for other peoples work or discoveries. I am sure this has happened many times in history, but only the people it has happened to, really know the truth.
Society today encourages this type of behavior through many mediums, such as; sports, education, politics, entertainment among others. This often inspires core values that are not in the best interests of mankind. Doing better than someone else, having more than the other person, often leads to forceful and negative emotional behavior. This in turn leads to envy, jealousy, revenge, deceit and hatred, thus further resulting in racism, social divisions, war and poverty.
People around the world should share their wisdom and information for the benefit of mankind. This would encourage love, happiness and contentment resulting in a more joyful world because of this behavior. However, this is an agenda the multitudes don’t seem to want to reach, because it is not the norm in mainstream thinking, and if it was it may disrupt society as we know it.
In an office workplace some people will not even blink if they have a chance to take the credit for a project that they had nothing to do with. In fact, they may have been opposed to the idea to begin with, or wanted no part of it, yet they somehow want to share in the success of others despite their original objections or laziness. This same type of person will not accept responsibility for a project or idea that didn’t work out and will deflect the blame and criticism any way they can.
What drives this behavior?
The schools promote competition through their marking schemes and environment. Sporting events are based around being better than the other person, or for the team to achieve “victory”, and in politics dirty tricks to gain the objective of power are common place and are now accepted as standard.
When did this become so routinely accepted? What is wrong with society to promote this kind of behavior and splash it across the headlines nonchalantly? What happened to integrity and honesty?
Television has one show after another based on this kind of life. Reality shows, soap operas, drama shows and so on, constantly display this type of behavior. The main characters in the episodes are obstructing and double crossing each other at every opportunity, with the ultimate goal being power, sex, lust or money. TV in North America focuses too much on violence. To them, it is OK to kill someone graphically and watch them suffer, but it’s not alright to display nude bodies or two people making love.

The world would be a much better place if the entertainment industry would stop focusing on violence or repeating negative historical events that lead to anger, discouragement and resentment from the audience. The minority of people like violence, but almost everyone enjoys love and affection. |
The majority of people that have gone through society’s structure and observe these shows, apply them in their everyday life to be “the biggest fish in the pond”. This behaviour becomes programmed into the mind like code in software. The people believe they must do whatever they can to finish “at the top”, or to make sure they have food on the table because it’s limited, when in reality there is plenty to go around for everyone if it’s managed properly.
Taking credit for work you have contributed to is a good idea and is expected. If you have reservations about the project to begin with, voice them, and make your opinion revealed. It will then be clear that you either want to be a part of it or not and thus cannot deceive people by sneaking in at the end. It’s the right thing to do.
As for society, don’t bother with TV shows or movies that send the wrong message, tune out of politics when you can, and try to change the process in which people are “elected” so the right person is selected and not the most popular person who will bend to the will of the people with money or lobbyists easily influenced with corruption. It’s also hard to think of sports without competition, but perhaps there is something fundamentally wrong with the way it’s is done. Sports is supposed to be fun, and there is nothing fun about getting hit in middle of the rink in a hockey game and getting your head smashed on the ice causing a
concussion.
Somewhere along the line there has either been a disconnect, or a deliberate attempt to cloud the mind of people around the world. The time has come to changeround the way we think.
The solution to this type of behaviour is to be in control of your emotions, particularly the lower ones. With emotional mastery, competition will decrease while cooperation, kindness and compassion will increase. This will result in a much better consciousness solving many problems in the world. This would literally change the world as we know it.
