Go for a Walk

Trees have a calming effect
If you find yourself stressed out to the limit, finances are in shambles, job cuts are rumoured, and life isn’t being good to you. Get up from your chair, walk outside, and clear your head. That’s right, get up from your chair, take a deep breath and go for a walk.
You don’t have to an Olympic athlete to walk. And you don’t need to be in a fairy tale to enjoy the walk. And unless there is a weather warning, there are no excuses but to get out there and unwind.
Start the walk by smiling and getting into a positive frame of mind. Try to leave your troubles behind. Choose a nice path with trees, nice homes, and as much nature as possible. Notice the beauty of the trees, the leaves waving in the wind, the type of tree, and the uniqueness of everything. Depending on the weather, enjoy the sunlight, or the sound of rain coming down, or perhaps the clouds floating by freely. Focus on sound and sight, feel the touch of the sun or the rain. Use your senses to appreciate the moment.
While you walk, focus on your breathing, close your eyes every now and then and concentrate inwards. You may be surprised what comes to mind.
Looking inside is the key to happiness, and can be obtained no matter who you are, through daily positive affirmations, mediation, exercising or listening to pleasant music. In a work situation, you may have to settle for the walk, but that may be enough for temporary relief.
When the walk is finished, and you go back from whence you came, chances are, your stress level has been brought down significantly, and you can get through the exit door of the work place by quitting time.
Remember to make this a new ritual, a daily ritual. Life will slow down, and you will appreciate living in the now, more than you used to, and it will inevitably lead to better things down the road.
