Employee Retention

Many jobs are not worth the stress
In the modern age, employees don’t last very long in private companies, that’s because the culture in the workplace is largely a dog eat dog world, which reveals the environment of each company.
The promotion and pay scale is rigged so that no matter how good a group of employees are, some have to fail. For example, a department which has ten employees must be broken down into two star performers, three good performers, three average performers, and two that performed below expectations. This ensures that if all the performers on the team do a good job, that two are labelled failures, and up to five are denied any form of promotion.
This skewed competitive culture ensures a high turnover rate, because of; backstabbing, ass kissing, favoritism, and some people that may have come into the company with a better knowledge of the product to excel faster than others. It ensures a very uneven playing field when you walk through the door, and make no mistake; a person is only as good as their last day of production on the job in this type of atmosphere.
Is it any wonder people jump ship from one company to another under this type of business model? This behavior is a reflection of society and thus it’s small wonder the people in the workplace which spill out into society after each day, are stressed out to the limit, and bring their problems to whoever they get in touch with. We all know that negative people are no fun to be around.
Under the above promotion model, star performers are groomed like a stud pure bred dog.
They develop egos so large, they cannot be bothered to help the people that are new, or are struggling in the company. But there comes a time, even the star performers hit a salary wall. They start to feel under-appreciated because they are the “go to” people in the business, and are gone too so often they start to burn out.
Still, somehow and someway, after shoveling mountains of work at these people the company is somehow surprised to find out the employee want to leave, or has already lined up another job. At this stage they try to “talk sense into the employee” and offer them a significant raise to stay. That’s entirely laughable because the employee is at that point doing everything they can not to tell them to take their job and shove it where the sun don’t shine. In addition, the employee would now rather take less money than work in hell’s kitchen.

Private companies in particular must change their ways to ensure employee retention.
For one, all employees hired must have had shown some promise to get through the door, so their slanted model should be changed. Everyone is different, and thus learns at different paces, and may turn out far more valuable than one thinks down the road given the time and effort. |

The culture within the company should change from “me, me, me” to “us, us, us”, in other words cooperation instead of competition; plus the focus should be a balance between work and family.
A job is a means to an end, people work to live; they do not live to work. The sooner these ultra-aggressive companies get that through their thick numskull heads the better and healthier society will be. Do these big manager, shareholder and directors really believe the person they force to come into work every day is their preferred location? If they do, their ego is deceiving them.
Less stress means less Medicare and fewer trips to the doctor. It means longer and healthier lives and thus potentially keeping employees – that are valuable to your company – for a long time. The solution seems very simple, yet people let their ego’s drive the car and they inevitably end up crashing that baby right into the wall at some point.
Private companies have yet another (among many) downfalls for their employees. They require more time than they are willing to pay you for, in other words, they ask you to “go
the extra mile” and work late without getting paid for the overtime. They also ask you to attend work functions, so that you can gather with all the head pigs at the trough. This often leads to time that could be spent with family, spent with other people, who you have very little in common with; and this unavoidably results in temptation, divorce, broken marriages, jealousy, envy, hate and no support at home. The ones who suffer the most in these scenarios are usually the children. This of course, is exactly what society wants because one will spend more time at work for them and less time raising a family.
This brings the conversation back to stress and competition in the workplace; in fact it goes in so many different negative directions it’s utterly astounding. Any way you cut it, their model is a joke and people should not take it. Look for a better job as soon as you see this culture engrossed in such places, or better yet employ yourself.
When you are interviewed for a new job, ask about compressed time schedules so you can
regain your time and live a life for you not them. Check to see if they have income averaging so can entertain the option of taking a pro-rated pay cut should you wish to spend time with the family, for yourself or travel. Wait for the manager and people interviewing you to say that family is important around here. If you don’t hear them say it, ask! Do not go back into a company that will chew you up and spit you out at the end.
Avoid ego driven companies and corporations like the plague, or you may end up with it! They do not care about you, that is something never to forget.
Take back the power you have and stop giving it to these soulless giant corporations. Start planning for what you want to do today, so you can do it tomorrow. If you must, continue to work there until you catch your break, and when you do, make sure the door hits them in the ass on the way out.
The people are far more valuable than they have been deemed by the ego maniacs that have the power. Don’t ever forget that. If society is going to change for the better these giant companies and high stress corporations need to be brought to a more humble existence. By leaving them, you take their power away, and regain yours.
It’s time for the little guy to make hay and carve out the life of their dreams. As this happens, life everywhere will get better, to the tune of such a song you will never
want to hear it stop!
